[USPRwire, Mon Oct 12 2009] PEPY Tours is thrilled to announce that our upcoming cross-Cambodia bicycle tour will feature a very special guest, bestselling Cambodian author Loung Ung.
Ung is best known for her memoir First They Killed My Father, which recounts her family’s struggle to survive under Pol Pot’s Khmer Rouge regime. Having witnessed one of the worst atrocities of recent history, Ung published her harrowing story, helping many people around the world better understand the experiences of Cambodian people during the late 1970s. Now a U.S. citizen and human rights activist, Ung has continued to bring awareness about Cambodian issues as spokesperson for the International Campaign to Ban Landmines.
In December PEPY will embark on its fifth annual PEPY Ride, a three-week cycling trip that is an “edu-venture,” combining tourism, volunteerism, and education. For participants, it is a chance to learn from and interact with people in rural Cambodia through support for community development projects, and to witness the country’s breathtaking landscape from the saddle of a mountain bike. PEPY Tours is honored to welcome Loung Ung to the cycling team, as she will bring further insight and education to the group about the issues that have shaped Cambodia and the realities in the country today. There are still three spots left on this trip.
